Academy East Hockey League

The commissioner of the Academy East Hockey League is renowned coach Alex Moody (Shattuck St. Mary’s School, Brooks School, and Berkshire School).  Coach Moody attended The Governor’s Academy (MA), the Madison Capitols of the United States Junior Hockey League (USHL) and Colby College (NESCAC/Small Ivy).  He amassed four MVP awards over the course of his playing career, All-American honors, Player-of-the-Year honors, team captain honors and New England Championships and USHL Final Four appearances.

As a coach in both Minnesota and Massachusetts, Coach Moody has developed hundreds of players who have gone on to play hockey in the NCAA at the Division I and Division III levels, have won national championships, have represented their country in international competition, and have played in the NHL.

Building upon his experience in the USHL, Coach Moody’s vision for the AEHL is to place as much importance on academics as on the hockey itself.

The Assistant Commissioner of the AEHL is Neil Mulcahy, a 1987 graduate of SUNY-Plattsburgh.  Coach Mulcahy participated in three Frozen Four tournaments and won the NCAA National Championship in 1987, a season during which he served as his team’s captain.

Mission Statement

The Academy East Hockey League was founded in 2012 with the purpose of enhancing the personal growth of our student-athletes and to further their ice hockey development. The AEHL provides a core of highly competitive games among affiliate programs and focuses on providing maximum exposure for our student-athletes.  The goal of the AEHL is to promote our student-athletes and their accomplishments, facilitate the recruitment of our players by college coaches, and to open up opportunities for them to play hockey at the NCAA level. The AEHL strives to be a recognized leader in comprehensive training and support of our student-athletes.  Doing so will help them reach their full athletic and academic potential by enhancing their skills and knowledge of the game to participate at the next level of ice hockey.
